Hitting the Books: Pueblo D60 superintendent finalist withdraws from consideration

Finalist Charles McNulty has withdrawn from consideration in the search for the next Pueblo School District 60 superintendent.

McNulty is the current superintendent of Pulaski County Special School District in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was one of three finalists chosen by Pueblo D60 board members earlier this month.

The Chieftain confirmed McNulty's decision to withdraw with Brian Ewert, an associate for Hazard, Young, Attea, & Associates, the firm conducting the Pueblo D60 search. While McNulty has withdrawn from the Pueblo D60 search, he remains a finalist for the Washoe County School District superintendent search in Reno, Nevada.

"It's not uncommon for candidates in a search of this magnitude to be involved in another one or two different searches, and the top candidates typically are named finalists in different places... I don't think this is a personal decision against the district, it's just a personal decision for him," Ewert said.

Superintendent Shon Hocker of Coeur d'Alene School District #271 and Chief Schools Officer Barbara Kimzey of Norfolk Public Schools are the two remaining finalists in the Pueblo D60 search. The two finalists will be interviewed by the Pueblo D60 Board of Education during an April 24 meeting.

Community members can learn more about the search and provide feedback on the two remaining superintendent candidates at pueblod60.org/superintendentsearch.
