To celebrate its 100th anniversary, Hertz is teaming up with Chevrolet to offer a special-edition Corvette Z06 for rent at various locations around the country. But if you look closely, you'll notice this Z06 seems to be missing something.

It appears the Hertz 100th Anniversary Edition Corvette Z06 won't be equipped with the Z06's aggressive splitter protruding from beneath the front bumper. Once you see that it's missing, it's impossible to ignore.

On a standard Z06, the front splitter is prominently in view. It's an important aerodynamic component for this track-focused car, but it sticks out low and far, and it's extremely easy to damage the piece on parking stops, curbs or speed bumps. Chevrolet offers the Corvette with a dual-view front-facing camera, in part to help drivers of Z06 or Grand Sport models avoid damaging the piece.

A Hertz spokesperson explained why the car in the picture is missing its splitter.

"Some locations installed the splitter and some did not due to ground clearance needed to get over the traffic spike strips at some locations. However, all will have the splitter installed on the vehicles when we sell them via our Hertz Car Sales channels in 6-8 months or so."

One imagines Hertz would probably have to replace these splitters often, too, as it seems anyone over the age of 25 can rent a Z06 for just $250 a day. That might cause a bit more front-end lift on track, but really, is anyone going to take one of these cars to the track?

This isn’t the first time Hertz has offered a special-edition high-performance rental: in the 1960s, it offered the Shelby GT350H, and more recently, it's offered other Mustangs that pay tribute to the original.

Hertz will distribute 100 of these Z06s to various cities across the US including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco and Tampa. Each car is painted yellow with black stripes to match the Hertz logo, and yes, they're all automatics.
