Herndon Police: Husband with knife stabs wife, shot by officer

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — The Herndon Police Department (HPD) said one of its officers shot a man with a knife on Sunday afternoon.

HPD said officers responded to a home in the 900 block of First Place just before noon after a woman called 911 to report that her husband stabbed her.

While at the scene, police say the suspect approached an officer with a knife. He fired his gun, striking the man in his upper body.

The husband and wife were both taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

The family’s dog also suffered stab wounds and was taken to an emergency vet.

As of 4 p.m., the wife was in stable condition and the husband, who received surgery for his gunshot wound, was recovering in the ICU.

The responding officer was not hurt. He was placed on standard paid administrative leave.
