Head-on collision on U.S. Highway 12 sends both drivers to hospital

Apr. 17—A semitruck and pickup collided head-on Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 12, about 2 miles east of the Clearwater River Bridge.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital, according to a news release from the Idaho State Police.

The collision happened a bit after 7 a.m. Tuesday, when a white Dodge Ram 2500 that was eastbound crossed the center line and collided with a Kenworth semitruck, according to the news release. The crash happened near milepost 17 along the Clearwater River, about 15 miles east of Lewiston.

The driver of the Dodge was taken to the hospital via air ambulance; the driver of the Kenworth was taken via ground ambulance.

A 6-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 12, from its intersection with Idaho State Highway 3 to its intersection with Cherry Lane Bridge, was fully closed for approximately two hours. Traffic was limited to one lane later in the day.
