Metro police reported 25-year-old Shondrill Butler became upset with the 17-year-old employee after she was charged the wrong amount. Butler was driving when her passenger pulled out a handgun, which led to the employee getting out their gun, and shots were fired, according to Metro police.

Police said the teen employee fired one shot. Meanwhile, the male passenger fired at least three times.

The employee was shot in the stomach and needed immediate surgery.

The gunman was identified by Metro police as 25-year-old Dwight Mason. Metro police reported he was the only person in the back seat of the car when shots were fired.

At the time of the shooting, law enforcement said the individuals in the car already had their card, food and drinks. Police said this meant Butler could have “drove off but stayed in the drive-thru.”

Mason was booked into the Metro jail Thursday and charged with attempted criminal homicide, four counts or aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony weapon possession and vandalism. His bond was set at $385,000.

Butler was taken into custody on Tuesday, March 26.
