Several roads were closed and businesses evacuated in Guelph's north end Tuesday morning as police dealt with what was believed to be a suspicious package.

Police closed Woodlawn Road from Dawson Road to the Hanlon Expressway, Silvercreek Parkway from Campbell Road to Fair Road, as well as Fair Road from Silvercreek Parkway to Arrow Road while police investigated.

Scott Tracey, spokesperson for Guelph Police Service, said police received a call at 8:15 a.m. from staff at the Canada Post depot on Woodlawn Road saying they had found a package in the mail system they believed was suspicious.

"The package was moved outside and the area evacuated," Tracey said in an email to CBC News.

Police later posted on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the investigation concluded and the package was determined not to be suspicious.

"Waterloo regional police's explosives disposal unit attended and were able to determine the package was not suspicious," Tracey said.
