Blossom Kite Festival at Washington Monument

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The National Cherry Blossom Festival is hosting its annual Blossom Kite Festival this Saturday, featuring a ‘Colors of the Wind’ themed kite-making competition.

The festival is held on the grounds of the Washington Monument near 15th – 17th Street and Constitution Ave. NW.

Activities are scheduled throughout the day, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but the highlight of the festival is the competition between kite-makers. All kites must be hand-made and flown by the kite-maker.

The competition, open to amateurs and enthusiasts alike, is split into two divisions between children and adults.

Children can compete for first, second and third place awards. Award categories for adults’ kites include Best in Show, Greatest Visual Appeal, Best Craftmanship and more.

Adults can also compete in a Hot Tricks Showdown, Adult Kit Makers Competition and Rokkaku Battle.

Contestants can register for competitions online or on-site between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
