Grand jury indicts man in Darlington County killing

DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A man is facing a murder charge in connection with a January shooting in the Mechanicsville area of Darlington County.

Billy Odell Powell was arraigned Thursday after being indicted by a grand jury, according to Sheriff James Hudson Jr. He remains in the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center where he was already being held on other related charges.

Herbert Lee Brown died in the Jan. 16 shooting off Turkey Run Lane, Coroner Todd Hardee told News13 on Friday.

No additional information was immediately available. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division assisted the sheriff’s office homicide team in the investigation, which is continuing.
