Good Samaritan intervenes when man tries to rob child of bike in Victorville

A good Samaritan confronted a man who tried to rob a child of a bicycle along Bear Valley Road in Victorville over the weekend, authorities said.

Mark Stephen Gruber, 39, described as a Victorville transient, was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and child abuse following his 4 p.m. arrest on Saturday, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and county booking records. He also had two outstanding arrest warrants.

The alleged robbery took place about 20 minutes earlier outside a McDonalds at Bear Valley Road and 2nd Avenue.

"Gruber pushed the juvenile off their bike causing them to fall," sheriff's officials said in a written statement. "A good Samaritan driving by the area saw what was happening and intervened. The good Samaritan was able to get the bike back from Gruber and returned it to the juvenile."

Deputies soon spotted Gruber nearby and arrested him.
