Good Samaritan helps man who was stabbed after argument

DENVER (KDVR) – Will Garaci was working in the New West Knife Shop on Wednesday, March 20, when he heard a woman screaming just off Filmore Street and 1st Avenue.

The intersection is located in the Cherry Creek North shopping district.

“The next thing I heard her say was ‘Oh my God you got stabbed,’” Garaci told FOX31.

Garaci collected a medical kit and rushed to administer first aid to a man who had been stabbed during an argument. He waited until paramedics arrived.

“He moved his hand and that’s when I saw all of the blood,” said Garaci.

The incident left many residents shaken and wondering how such a thing could happen in the upscale shopping area. Police said Friday that the attack possibly stemmed from a road rage incident.

“I thought it is very unusual for Cherry Creek to see this kind of police activity,” said one bystander.

Statistics published by the Denver Police Department show six violent crimes have been reported so far this year in the general Cherry Creek area, and 11 were reported in 2023. No sexual assaults have been reported since 2022 when one complaint was made.

When it comes to assaults reported over the past month, the highest crime areas are Denver’s Lincoln Park with 13 cases and the Civic Center area with 11. Only one case was reported in the general Cherry Creek region of the metro area.

The Cherry Creek North shopping district remained busy with visitors and employees on Thursday.

Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District President and CEO Nick LeMasters tells FOX31 security is a top priority.

Denver will stop emergently responding to migrants, shifting to a sustainable response

“I think it’s fair to say Cherry Creek is a very safe neighborhood,” said LeMasters.

He underscored that the response to the random incident on Wednesday was swift and prevented any further risk.

“I was very proud of our own private security team that we have here 24/7 as well as the Denver Police Department who responded very quickly,” said LeMasters.

The assault was not targeted or connected to any location in Cherry Creek North.
