UPDATE: Crews contain Bentonville gas leak after vehicle hits line

UPDATE 1:35 a.m. April 28: The city of Bentonville says crews have shut off the leak and it is contained. The road is back open.


UPDATE 9:54 p.m.: Black Hills Energy says technicians are continuing to monitor conditions and make repairs.


UPDATE 9:36 p.m.: The City of Bentonville said in a social media post at 9 p.m. that traffic in the area of Highway 112 and SW Gator Boulevard is being rerouted due to a gas leak.

The red X is where streets are blocked and blue and yellow lines are alternate routes to Bright Road to get back in route to Highway 112.

The city says hazmat crews are monitoring the leak and no evacuation has been ordered at this time.


UPDATE 9:12 p.m.: Police told KNWA/FOX24 that Black Hills Energy says they’ll be here for 5-6 more hours.

Police said they are not evacuating anyone and said that would be the fire department’s job. If anything changes, police say they will let residents know.


UPDATE: Bentonville released an update at 8:30 p.m.

“Black Hills Energy crews from Fayetteville are enroute to assist to repair leak. Bentonville Fire Department Hazmat team will remain on scene to monitor and NO evacuation is needed at this time,” the city said.


BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Emergency crews are on the scene of a gas leak in Bentonville after a driver hit a corner and struck a pipe, according to Bentonville police.

The incident took place near the intersection of Highway 112 and SW Gator Blvd.

BPD says a nearby road has been blocked off.

The City of Bentonville said in a social media post the Bentonville Hazmat team is monitoring conditions in conjunction with Black Hills Energy and a smell may be noticed in the area until the leak is secured. The city says there is no need for evacuation at this time.

A Black Hills Energy spokesperson told KNWA/FOX24 that air quality is being checked in the area as a safety measure after a vehicle struck a valve setting.
