Funeral arrangements for Congressman Donald Payne Jr. announced for next week

Funeral arrangements for Rep. Donald Payne Jr. were announced by his family and Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. on Friday.

Payne, who died on Wednesday, will lie in state in the Essex County Historic Courthouse on Wednesday and his funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Newark's Cathedral Basilica.

He will be the third person to lie in state in the Essex County Historic Courthouse, the first was his father, Congressman Donald M. Payne Sr. in 2012 and the second was Lt. Gov. Sheila Y. Oliver last summer.

There will be a private viewing from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday before the courthouse is opened to the public from noon to midnight. The public will enter and exit through the West Entrance of the building on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Parking for the public will be available in the Essex County Jurors Parking Lot. The entrance is on South Orange Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, people are asked to donate to Donald M. Payne Sr. Global Foundation, 111 Mulberry St., Unit 5C, Newark, NJ 07102.
