Fulton County infant death investigation: Here is what we know

FULTON COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — More than a week after the discovery of a dead infant in Fulton County, officials are releasing new details in the investigation.

abc27 first reported when the infant was found on March 11 near the intersection of North Second Street and Lincoln Way West in McConnellsburg. State Police responded to a street near the intersection, shortly before 9 a.m. and the infant was pronounced dead on scene.

At the time, the Fulton County Coroner’s office had not yet disclosed whether the child was stillborn or ever born. Now, the coroner says, the baby appeared to have been born less than 24 hours before being discovered, and was estimated to be between 36 and 37 weeks, or about 9 months, of gestational age at the time of birth.

According to the coroner, the infant was a Caucasian male with brown hair and blue eyes, weighed four pounds and was seventeen inches long.

An autopsy was performed at Forensic DX, in Windber, Pennsylvania on March 11, and the cause and manner of death are still under investigation pending those results.

On Monday, March 18 State Police completed a detail near the intersection where the baby was found. According to the coroner, troopers contacted drivers and asked anyone who traveled through that specific location on the morning of or night prior to the incident who has an in-car camera to review the footage.

An entry was also completed in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) about the unidentified infant.

Police are continuing to ask anyone with information relevant to the case to contact them. State Police in McConnellsburg can be reached at 717-485-3131.
