Free Black Lung Screenings for Coal Miners

BEAVER, WV (WVNS) – The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is offering coal miners free and confidential black lung screenings in Beaver, West Virginia, from April 23-25, 2024.

The screenings will be held from 8 A.M. until 4 P.M. at the MSHA National Mine Health and Safety Academy, located at 1301 Airport Road in Beaver.

The goal of these screenings is early detection of black lung disease. If it is caught early, steps can be taken to prevent the disease from progressing.

Screenings take approximately 30 minutes to complete and include a chest x-ray, blood pressure screening, and breathing test. The results are confidential and miners should receive them within 8 to 10 weeks. Setting an appointment is recommended, but walk-ins are also welcome.
