Four finalists in running for Salisbury Prize, $10,000, and you can pick your favorite now
Four finalists have been selected for the first-ever Salisbury Prize public art project.
Now, Salisbury’s Public Art Committee is calling on the public to provide feedback before voting commences.
How to provide feedback on the four finalists
Earlier this year, Maryland-based artists, architects and creative teams were all invited to submit proposals for the public art project, which is to be located in the Riverwalk Games Park in downtown Salisbury.
Four finalists have since been selected. The finalists are a turtle mosaic sculpture, a stainless steel stump and sprout sculpture, a pelican sculpture and Salisbury murals on the Riverwalk Games Park storage shed.

In addition to a $10,000 award, the winner of the art contest will receive an additional stipend of up to $5,000 in reimbursement for materials and an unveiling event after or at the time of installation.
Those interested in providing feedback on the finalists may visit www.bit.ly/SalisburyPrize and click on “Share your input here.” Feedback will be accepted through April 23, said the city in an April 11 news release.

“We were impressed by the submissions, and it’s important to get public feedback before a winner is selected,” said Allen Swiger, director of Salisbury’s Arts, Business and Culture Department. “Any of these would be a great addition to Riverwalk Games Park.”

The winner will be notified by April 26. After the winning design is announced on May 1, the artist or group will then have approximately six months, from June 1 to Dec. 1, to complete the public art project.
The Salisbury Prize follows last fall’s unveiling of the Salisbury Public Art Master Plan. Todd W. Bressi, a public art planning consultant, led the process, which included community input. This is the first major initiative of the Public Art Committee, formed in 2023, the release stated.
The city intends for The Salisbury Prize to be an annual competition.
