Foley Fire Department receives new vehicle

FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — Firefighters in Foley got a new addition to their truck fleet — an addition officials say was needed to help the department “meet the growing demand for services in the city.”

Wednesday saw the new addition — a new pumper truck — being pushed into Foley’s main fire department, according to a release. Foley firefighters and city officials pushed the new truck into the main fire station in a tradition meant to “mark the unit being placed into active service.”

Foley Fire Department Chief Joey Darby emphasized how the custom-built Rosenbauer Minnesota Commander EXT pumper truck came at the right time because the “demand for services has increased drastically.”

He said, “We’re up about 70% over the last five years. So we need to make sure that the trucks that we get are built the right way and that they are going to be good service trucks for us.”

The new truck offers the following features:

  • A pumping capacity of 1,500 gallons per minute

  • A 750-gallon water tank

The project to introduce a new fire truck was costly at about $600,000 — but that is not all the additions coming to the fire department, the release said.

In addition to Wednesday’s new truck, the department will add equipment worth between $100,000 and $150,000 to the unit. A Foley Fire Department vehicle and a ladder truck have also been ordered, according to the release.
