Florida zoo welcomes adorable baby sloth to the world

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A central Florida zoo welcomed a baby Linne’s two-toed sloth to the world on March 14.

According to the Brevard Zoo, the fuzzy little creature was born to 18-year-old Sammy. Zoo staff call her an expert caretaker, as the latest birth is her third.

The pair returned to their habitat just hours after the baby was born. Visitors can find Sammy and her baby lounging around in a perpetual cuddle.

“The baby sleeps most of the time, but will sometimes open their eyes to look around. Then, it’s right back to napping or nursing,” Assistant Curator of Animals Sidnee Santana-Mellor said.

The baby, whose gender is unknown, will cling to mom for about six months to a year before it begins exploring on its own. They share their habitat with two Saki monkeys named Yuki and Chuckie, but zoo staff says they haven’t taken much interest in their new roommate.
