Five people injured, one critically, in two-vehicle crash in Eaton County

WALTON TWP. — Five people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Butterfield Highway Saturday afternoon, including a 5-year-old boy whose injuries are considered critical, according to statements released on X by Michigan State Police.

The head-on crash happened around 1:25 p.m. on Butterfield Road between Marshall Road and Interstate 69, state troopers said.

In the same vehicle as the 5-year-old boy, a 34-year-old woman and 13-year-old boy sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A 54-year-old man and 52-year-old female in the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers said the 34-year-old Ford Focus driver from Bellevue was traveling west on Butterfield when her vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of a Chevy Equinox driven by a 54-year-old Charlotte resident.

On Sunday, state troopers said the 5-year-old boy was transported to Sparrow Hospital and then flown to the University of Michigan Hospital for treatment. He is in critical but stable condition, they said.

"Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash," they added in their update. "At this time it is not known what caused the driver to cross the centerline. The investigation is ongoing."
