FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY: Tornado Watch for NE Florida, portions of SE Georgia canceled

The Action News Jax First Alert Weather Team said Thursday’s First Alert Weather Day has now ended after the tornado watch that was in effect for Northeast Florida and portions of Southeast Georgia has been canceled.

A tornado was observed on the ground in St. Johns County near State Road 16 and Interstate 95 around 11:45 a.m. as First Alert Weather Meteorologist Corey Simma was live on Action News Jax tracking. A viewer named Curt sent us video of the tornado in the World Golf Village area. You can watch it above.

Here’s a rundown of what else happened during the First Alert Weather Day and what else is ahead:

  • Rainfall amounts: SE Georgia: 3 - 5 inches ... NE Florida: 1 - 3 " (especially north of I-10 for higher amounts)

  • The First Alert Weather Team told you before noon Wednesday that Thursday would be a First Alert Weather Day.

  • Drying out now with sunshine to be seen.

  • Still a bit breezy on the back side of this system with offshore winds.

  • Dry Friday and for the weekend.
