5 displaced, 1 hospitalized following apartment fire in Springfield

Five people have been displaced and another is hospitalized following an apartment fire in Springfield early Wednesday morning.

Springfield firefighters were dispatched at 2:15 a.m. to the 2100 block of Larch Street on initial reports of an apartment fire.
Firefighters had to deal with smoke and flames as they put out the fire, Springfield Fire Division Battalion Chief Jeremy Linn told News Center 7.
Five people have been displaced and the Red Cross is assisting them.
Medics transported one person to Springfield Regional Medical Center for smoke inhalation, Linn said.
The estimated cost of damages is $23,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
