Fire kills 120k chickens at northern Utah egg farm

LEWISTON, Utah (ABC4) — Approximately 120,000 chickens are dead after a fire raged through Oakdell Egg Farms Tuesday afternoon.

The fire began Tuesday, April 23, around 4 p.m. near 2500 S 1600 W in Lewiston and took roughly five hours to extinguish, according to Cache County Fire Marshal Jason Winn.

Firetrucks from Hyrum in Cache County and Franklin, Idaho traveled to Lewiston to assist local fire authorities, and tanker trucks were used to shuttle in water.

Winn said there were no injuries from the fire, however, the barn was a total loss and more than 100,000 chickens were killed.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. There is no further information at this time.
