Work finally begins at former Steak 'n Shake in Holland Township

HOLLAND TWP. — All remnants of the Holland Township Steak 'n Shake are gone following demolition work last week that took the building down to its studs, stripping its signature look.

Holland's Steak ‘n Shake at 2288 N. Park Drive (near Walmart) closed its doors for good almost exactly five years ago, in early May 2019.

After years of speculation, it was announced in January that McAlister’s Deli would open in the location in the fall. According to records, the property was purchased Dec. 18 by Southern Restaurant Development for $1,275,000.

The popular deli recently confirmed their intentions to open in Holland this fall, despite rumors online the property was back on the market and a remaining "for sale" sign.

As of Wednesday, crews were building new interior walls.

McAlister’s has 556 locations across the United States, including eight in Michigan. The only location in West Michigan is in Wyoming.
