FEMA extends deadline for August storm assistance

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended the deadline to apply for federal assistance in certain counties after severe weather last August.

The deadline to apply with FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration has been extended to May 8, according to a news release. The extended deadline was requested by the state of Michigan.

Homeowners and renters in Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Kent, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland and Wayne counties who were affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from Aug. 24-26, 2023, can apply.

Affected parties can apply online at disasterassistance.gov or using the FEMA mobile app. They can also call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Multilingual operators are available.

Disaster Recovery Centers are also open. Locations and hours can be found online at fema.gov/drc.
