Fayette County Labor Union Official sentenced for embezzlement
FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — A Fayette County Labor Union Official was sentenced for embezzlement on Friday, April 12, 2024.
50-year-old Jason Todd Weaver, of Mount Hope, was sentenced to five years of parole and ordered to pay $2,896.78 in restitution for embezzlement of funds by an officer of a labor organization.

According to statements made in court, Weaver used his job as secretary/treasurer of the American Postal Workers Union, Local 1509 to write himself a check for $352.62 from the Local 1509’s Beckley bank account on October 29, 2021.
Not only did Weaver sign his name as an authorized account signatory, he also forged the name of a union officer who was an authorized account signatory.
Weaver acknowledged that he knew that the money was not meant for him, however he still put the money into his bank account. He also revealed that using his job with Local 1509 from around April 25, 2016 through November 13, 2021, he embezzled a total of $12,396.78 union funds, issued 17 union checks to himself, and misused the union’s credit card 59 times.

Before he pleaded guilty to embezzlement, he only repaid $9,500 of the $12,396.78.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Will Thompson, who praised the Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) and the United States Department of Labor for their work on the investigation.
