Fairview Heights police save elderly man having medical emergency

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – Concerned family members are being commended for asking the Fairview Heights Police Department to conduct a welfare check on an elderly loved one.

Fairview Heights police posted on Facebook that officers went to a home on April 29 to check on the man, who had recently been ill and not been in contact with family for the past three days.

Officers saw vehicles in the driveway and knocked on the door, but no one answered. The officers finally got in touch with the man by phone and heard signs of a possible medical emergency: delayed responses to questions, incoherent answers, and indecipherable speech.

After notifying family members, officers forced their way into the home and provided medical care to the man until an ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital.
