What to expect: Gusts up to 80 mph possible on Saturday
DENVER (KDVR) — Saturday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day due to high winds that could sway more than just your lawn furniture. The weekend’s windy weather comes with the risk of falling tree limbs, power outages and blowing dust.
Friday’s forecast brings in sunshine and temperatures hitting the 76-degree mark with a bit of a brisk wind. While it will feel like summer to end the workweek, the wind brings in a change on Saturday.
Denver weather: Breezy, warm on Friday before Pinpoint Weather Alert Day for high winds
Wind speeds high on Saturday
Friday’s breezy winds will pick up to 25-45 mph on Saturday, and the foothills could see gusts of 80 mph or higher.
The plains could see some blowing dust. In the metro, tree limbs could go down, which can lead to some scattered power outages.
The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning as well as a red flag warning.
While you’re going to want to put away your patio furniture – unless your neighbor needs a new set – there’s more to watch out for than blowing debris.
Snow not enough to stop fire danger in Colorado
Saturday advisories
NWS also put out advisories for a fire weather warning through Friday.
Even though the winds will be stronger on Saturday, the fire danger is lower.
NWS also put out winter weather advisories in the high country, as mountain towns will pick up a few inches of snow along with brisk winds.
However, the focus of the Pinpoint Weather Alert Day is the wind speeds, which should have more of an effect than the winter weather.
