Juvenile inmates CAUGHT in Burke County on Knight Road

UPDATE: According to Burke County Sheriff’s Office, the two juvenile inmates are back in custody after being caught on Knight Road.

Burke County Sheriff Alonzo Williams issued an official statement:

Sheriff Alfonzo Williams and the Burke County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend its deepest gratitude and appreciation to all participating law enforcement agencies and the community for their unwavering support and assistance in the recent incident involving two teenage escapees.

On Thursday, March 21, 2024 two teenage escapees, Brandon Davis and Corinthian Newton, overpowered a Jenkins County Deputy while being transported and managed to escape into the woods of north Burke. It was initially reported that the suspects had shot the officer; however, subsequent investigations revealed that the officer’s injuries were sustained during their physical attack.

Brandon Davis, a 14-year-old black male, stands 5’2″ tall and weighs 98lbs. Corinthian Newton, a 15-year-old black male, stands 5’11” tall and weighs 170lbs. Both suspects were considered armed and dangerous.

Since the incident, nearly 3 dozen law enforcement units tirelessly searched for the escapees, with the ultimate goal of ensuring the safety and security of our community. We deeply appreciate the dedication, professionalism, and cooperation demonstrated by all participating law enforcement agencies in this joint effort.

We would also like to express our gratitude to the community for their invaluable support and vigilance during this challenging time. Your assistance, cooperation, and willingness to provide information was instrumental in locating and apprehending the suspects.

Thank you everyone for remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities or sightings.

The safety of our community was of utmost importance, and we were confident that together, we would bring these individuals to justice.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all participating law enforcement agencies and the community for their unwavering support and collaboration. Together, we prevailed in safeguarding our community.

The deputy is safely recovering. The juvenile suspects are unharmed and in custody.

(WJBF) – According to Burke County Sheriff’s office, Deputies are currently out at Hwy 56 and Knight Road in search of 2 juvenile escaped inmates from Jenkins County.

Burke County Sheriff’s Office Deputies are currently out in force, being aided by a Georgia State Patrol helicopter unit, along HWY 56 Mike Padgett Highway and Knight Road just South of McBean.

14-year-old Brandon Davis, who stands 5-foot-2-inches tall and weighs 98 pounds is one of the suspects being sought.

The other suspect is 15-year-old Corinthian Newton, 5-foot-11-inches tall, and weighing 170 pounds.

The two juvenile inmates were last seen wearing RYDC jumpsuits.

The teenagers escaped while being transported from a court case in Bulloch County to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Augusta.

One of them was able to dive through the partition of the transport truck, causing the driver, Jenkins County Deputy Milo Perry, to pull over near Knight Road and wrestle with the teenagers. Colonel Jimmy Wylds says they were able to take Deputy Perry’s gun, hit him with it and knock him unconscious.

They then shot 3 rounds in his direction. Officials say Deputy Perry was not shot during the incident. He’s been transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Those who live in the Hancock Mill, McBean, and Bennock Mill communities in Southern Richmond County should lock their doors and be on the look out for any suspicious activity, according to Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

Citizens in the area please lock your doors and report any suspicious individuals to 911 immediately.

The Burke County Public School System has issued a notice to the public, stating that they are suspending bus transport of students to the search area along Knight Road, Ponderosa Road, and HWY 56 North. Students living in those areas will be returned to the school and parents will need to pick them up.

“Bus #’s: 12-86, 17-52, 18-74, 17-50, 16-03, If the area is not cleared before night run: 16-03, 18-72.”
