Election forum set for April 28 in Enterprise

ENTERPRISE — At least 15 candidates in the May 21 primary election, including three running for statewide office, are expected to appear at the Wallowa County Election Forum on April 28.

The forum will begin at 3 p.m. at Cloverleaf Hall, 600 NW First St. in Enterprise.

It’s sponsored by the Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Wallowa County and Wallowa County Stockgrowers Association.

Two of the nine candidates for Oregon secretary of state will appear: Brent Barker, of Beaverton, in person and Jim Crary, of Ashland, on Zoom. Also on Zoom will be Will Lathrop, of Newberg, one of five Oregon attorney general aspirants.

Three contenders for state senator have confirmed their participation: Jim Doherty, of Boardman; Dave Drotzmann, of Hermiston; and Todd Nash, of Enterprise. Nash is retiring as a Wallowa County commissioner to seek the senatorship.

All candidates for the Wallowa County Board of Commissioners will appear. Those running for Position 1 are Lisa Collier, of Joseph, and Angelika Deitrich-Garroute, David Brandt, John Amond and Devin Patton, all of Enterprise. Incumbent Susan Roberts and David Hembd, both of Enterprise, are running for Position 2.

Circuit Court Judge Wes Williams, who is seeking reelection, is on the docket along with his opponent, Jared Boyd, of La Grande.

Other candidates on the May ballot are either unopposed or did not confirm their participation.

Diane Daggett, of the Rotary Club, herself a former candidate for county commissioner, will moderate the forum. Attendees can meet personally with the candidates following the program.
