Eastern Oregon University names new College of Education dean

LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University has named Rae Ette Newman as the new Dean of the College of Education, according to an April 15 press release from the university.

Newman has served as the interim dean since July 2022 and will officially take the position effective May 1.

"I am honored to lead the College of Education and build on its strong foundation of fostering educational excellence and community involvement," Newman said. "I look forward to working with our exceptional staff and students to advance our strategic goals and make a significant impact in the educational sector."

Prior to her role as interim dean, Newman served as the Department Chair for the College of Education, according to the press release. She furthered the college’s mission of enriching academic quality in eastern Oregon and supported experiential learning opportunities for students.

Newman also served as Director of Accreditation and led several education initiatives at Eastern.

"Her leadership will be important as we continue to enhance our education programs

and strengthen our community engagement."

Throughout her career Newman has been highly involved in education programs and teaching preparation, according to the press release. She currently serves as the Chair of Oregon’s Teacher Standards and Practices Commission, which oversees educator preparation programs for K-12 throughout the state.

Newman holds a doctorate in special education from the University of Nevada, where she also earned her master’s degree. She got her Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a dual major in special education early childhood and general education pre-k through grade 3.
