EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick has revealed an injury he suffered after running the London Marathon last week.

Borthwick and co-star Emma Barton completed the famous race on Sunday (April 21), but for parts of the route, they ran as their characters Jay Brown and Honey Mitchell.

As part of a storyline on the BBC soap, the characters ran the marathon in memory of Jay’s late wife Lola, who passed away from a brain tumour last year – while Borthwick and Barton each ran on behalf of their own charities as well.

The actors appeared on Good Morning Britain this morning (April 26) to talk about their experience and were asked how they were feeling almost a week post-race.

"How are you feeling, Jamie?" Barton said jokingly. "Do you want to tell everyone at home what you’re feeling like?"

Borthwick spoke about his painful injury and said: "My right foot’s second toe is not good. It’s not pretty. I’ve got plantar fasciitis. The soles of my feet are pretty sore."

EastEnders made history this week by filming scenes involving Borthwick and Barton at different stages of the marathon on Sunday, and then that footage was shown in the episode the next day.

Borthwick explained how the soap managed such a quick turnaround and said: "We had our four camera crews set up at the four different areas, and I believe they literally shot our footage, and it was straight out of the cameras and straight off to post [production] back at Elstree ready for the next day. I’d say they did a great job getting it in."

In a social media post shared after he completed the marathon, Borthwick wrote: "Well we did it somehow someway! Huge congratulations to our [EastEnders] team, you all absolutely smashed it!

"[Emma Barton], two marathons together and didn’t leave each other’s side once! Love you more than anything, you smashed it again and showed your strength and dedication!"

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
