Early voting for local municipal, school elections starts Thursday

Mar. 27—Early voting for the April 2 Board of Education General Election and Special Elections start this week.

Early voting will take place between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 and Friday, March 29 at the Grady County Election Board in Chickasha.

Several municipal and school elections are on the ballot for the Grady, McClain and Caddo County areas. Election Day is on Tuesday, April 2. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

There are races for three Chickasha City Council seats. Incumbent Kea Ginn will run against David C. Lucas for the Ward 1. Daniel Terry will run against Charlie Burruss for Ward 2. Three candidates will face off for the Ward 4 seat: John P. Smith, Isaac DeLeon and Eric Joseph Anderson.

Some changes on the Chickasha City Council have already been confirmed. Zachary Grayson filed unopposed for mayor in February. Current mayor, Chris Mosley, did not file for reelection. Erica Alexander ran unopposed for the open Ward 3 seat. Dr. R.P. Ashanti-Alexander did not file for reelection. Grayson, Alexander and the newly elected council members will be sworn in and begin their terms on April 15.

Several schools in the Grady County area have school board positions on the ballot, including: Dibble, Blanchard, Alex, Minco, Fletcher, Canadian Valley Technology Center and Cement.

As for proportions, the City of Minco is asking voters to consider a hotel tax. Cement Public Schools is seeking votes for a $4.2 million bond for new school construction.

Whether voting early or on Election Day, voters may view a sample ballot, find their polling place, change party affiliation and more by using the OK Voter Portal. The Oklahoma State Election Board website also lists elections by county on their website. Please note also the deadline to change party affiliation is March 31.
