Driver in roundabout crash indicted

May 22—Two days after he appeared in court on charges of criminal abuse of a child, a Laurel County man was indicted for assault, unlawful imprisonment, fleeing police, wanton endangerment and possession of illicit drugs.

A Laurel grand jury charged Dustin James Bewley, 30, of Brent Danielle Road in Lily, in a 10-count indictment stemming from a crash at the roundabout on KY 363/KY 1006 on Feb. 23.

Police were called regarding a kidnapping that day and engaged in a pursuit with Bewley on KY 1006 that morning. Bewley attempted to go through the grassy area of the roundabout, hit a guy wire and flipped the vehicle in which the alleged kidnapping victim was a passenger. London Police Officer/Public Affairs Officer Hobie Daugherty testified in Bewley's preliminary hearing that Bewley and the passenger were trapped inside the vehicle and emergency personnel had to remove them after the crash.

Bewley was also found in possession of Fentanyl, methamphetamine and morphine at the time of the crash. He is also charged with criminal mischief, fourth-degree assault, driving under the influence, third offense; and resisting arrest.

Bewley and his girlfriend, Destani Breeding, 28, of Keavy, are also charged with complicity to criminal abuse of a 6-year-old child on Feb. 21. Bewley is also charged with the actual abuse of the child, while Breeding is charged with tampering with evidence by hiding a stun gun that could be used as evidence in that case.
