Fiery car crash in Bell now ruled a homicide

What initially appeared to be a fatal car crash in Bell is now being investigated as a homicide, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The crash happened at the intersection of Florence Boulevard and Vinevale Avenue where the badly mangled vehicle was found engulfed in flames around midnight on Wednesday.

The victim, a male, was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Investigators then discovered bullet holes.

“Bell Police Department traffic investigators responded to the scene and began investigating the incident as a fatal traffic collision, ultimately noticing bullet holes in the vehicle on the passenger side,” said Lt. Steve DeJong. “When they examined the victim they noticed a possible gunshot wound to his upper torso.”

The victim’s identity was not immediately released and the Sheriff’s Department didn’t provide information about any potential suspects.
