Driver cited in fatal motorcycle crash on Academy Blvd.

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A person has been cited in a crash on North Academy Boulevard that left a motorcyclist dead.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), 58-year-old Shu Ci Wang was served and released on Monday, April 15, on charges of Careless Driving Resulting in Death and Vehicles Turning Left (Failure to Yield).

The crash occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29 at the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and York Drive, just south of Woodmen Road. CSPD said when officers arrived, the motorcycle rider had already been taken to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.

On March 5, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the motorcyclist as 43-year-old Jacob (Jay) “Kingpin” Munson.

This was the 11th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2024. At the same time in 2023, there had also been 11 fatalities.
