CENTRAL VIRGINIA — The solar eclipse wasn't the only excitement in Virginia yesterday. According to the U.S. Geological Survey [U.S.G.S.], a 2.1 magnitude earthquake with a depth of 5.0 km rattled parts of Central Virginia around 10:46 p.m. on Monday, April 8. The U.S.G.S. determined its epicenter was located about three miles north of Glen Allen. I was awake at that time in Chester but didn't feel a thing. Did you?

Judith Warrington who resides near Forest Hill Park in South Richmond was in bed reading when she heard a rumble from the southwest that sounded like a large truck. She glanced at the clock which displayed 10:46 p.m.

"That's when a piece of art rattled on the wall. A truck wouldn't necessarily shake an interior wall, so my first thought was an earthquake," Warrington shared. "During the last big earthquake, my chimney tumbled down. A $5,000 repair. So you can imagine that I'm attuned to any shaking."

Warrington recalled her experience with the magnitude 5.8 earthquake which hit Virginia's Piedmont region at 1:51:04 p.m. on August 23, 2011. The epicenter in Louisa county was five miles south-southwest of Mineral and 38 miles northwest of Richmond.
