Denver weather: Pinpoint Weather Alert Day for slushy snow

DENVER (KDVR) — Another gray and dreary day is ahead in the Denver weather forecast. A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day is in effect Friday into Saturday with slushy snow ahead.

Widespread rain starts before dinner on Friday night and then transitions into snow, which is why a winter weather advisory is in effect for the northern and southern foothills and portions of the high country. Snow continues into Saturday morning.

Weather today: Dreary, afternoon showers

Temperatures slowly climb into the upper 30s and lower 40s under overcast skies.

The first half of the day will have more periods of dry air. But by the afternoon, Denver will see rain, which will turn into snow as temperatures sink into the middle to lower 30s.

Showers are forecast to continue through Friday night and into early Saturday morning. Snowfall totals in the metro area will stay between 1-3 inches of slushy, wet snow. Higher totals of 4-10 inches are expected in the foothills, with winter weather advisories in effect through 9 a.m. Saturday.

Snow showers will taper off Saturday evening and will be followed by sunshine and warmer temperatures for the end of the weekend.

Both Sunday and Monday will reach the lower 70s with plenty of sunshine.

On Tuesday, there is a chance for an isolated shower. Temperatures will drop slightly on Tuesday to the upper 60s ahead of mid to upper 70s on Wednesday and Thursday.
