Del Valle ISD board names acting superintendent

DEL VALLE, Texas (KXAN) — The Del Valle Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved an acting superintendent after Dr. Annette Tielle announced her impending retirement from the role back in February.

The board approved Jonathan Harris as acting superintendent, as well as approving Tielle as superintendent emeritus, effective immediately, according to a release from the school district.

The board said the action was “approved according to the terms of the March 5, 2024 voluntary retirement agreement mutually approved by the Board and Dr. Tielle.”

Harris has worked at DVISD since 2012, most recently as the chief compliance, governmental and community relations officer and executive director of curriculum and instruction. Before working at Del Valle, he was a high school principal and a high school science teacher, according to the release.

He has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Massachusetts and a masters degree in biochemistry and biophysics from Texas A&M.

According to the release, the board is conducting a search for the district’s next superintendent, and in March it authorized a request for proposals for a Superintendent Search Firm. It received responses in April and expects to identify a search firm “in the near future.”
