Decatur Police seeking info on deadly February shooting

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Decatur Police Department is asking for help from the public in solving a deadly shooting that happened nearly a month ago.

At 6:24 a.m. on February 28, police were called to the intersection of North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and East Pershing Road. They found a black Pontiac Sedan in the Best One of Central Illinois parking lot, located at 2952 North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

The driver and sole occupant of this vehicle, later identified as 22-year-old Decatur resident Kemari A. Carr, was found with apparent gunshot wounds to his body.

Detectives spoke to witnesses and gathered evidence that determined an unknown person or persons had left a white SUV, fired at Carr’s vehicle in the intersection, then fled south in the SUV down MLK Jr. Drive.

Anyone with any more information on this crime, including photo or video evidence, is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 217-423-8477. Tipsters can also call the Decatur Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 217-424-2734.

Calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous. $2,500 will be given for tips that lead to an arrest in this case.
