WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – It’s Day Two of former president Donald Trump’s New York trial.
The court is searching for jurors to weigh in on allegations that Trump was part of an illegal hush money scheme.

The court is questioning dozens of potential jurors.  They’re looking for people who say they can be fair and impartial in deciding whether the former president committed 34 felonies.

On day two of his criminal trial Donald Trump came out swinging.

“This trial is a disgrace,” said Trump.

The trial centers on accusations that Trump illegally falsified business records as part of a hush money scheme to cover up alleged affairs, but he denies those accusations.

“I was paying a lawyer and marked it down as a legal expense. Some accountant I didn’t know marked it down as a legal expense. That’s exactly what it was,” said Trump.

Right now the court is working through jury selection. The judge has already dismissed dozens of people who say they cannot be fair and impartial, but lawyers are questioning dozens more in an effort to find 12 jurors and 6 alternates who will ultimately decide whether or not to convict the former president.

Back in Washington, D.C. Republican Congressman Troy Nehls railed against the trial.

“America quite honestly should be ashamed of what’s taking place,” said Nehls.

Stuck in court for what’s expected to be a weeks-long process Trump expressed frustration about the timing.

“I should be right now in Pennsylvania, in Florida and many other states, North Carolina, Georgia, campaigning,” said Trump.

President Joe Biden is doing just that. He’s spending the next three days making his re-election pitch in Pennsylvania, which is expected to be a crucial battleground state for 2024.

President Biden started that campaign swing in his hometown of Scranton where he talked to voters about his plan to raise taxes on the rich.
