UPDATE: Barbecue grill causes $30k in damages to North Abilene home

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Multiple units from the Abilene Fire Department (AFD) battled a North Abilene house fire Tuesday evening.

UPDATE

AFD issued a press release on the North Willis Street house fire Wednesday morning to close out the case.

Fire crews arrived just before 5:50 p.m. to find heavy smoke emanating from a 2-story home. AFD confirmed all occupants were out of the house when they got there.

The fire began at the back exterior wall and extended into the attic. Minimal damage was done to the inside of the house, according to AFD.

Through an investigation, AFD discovered it was a barbecue grill being used next to the back exterior wall that caused the fire. That grill also caused about $30,000 worth of damages.

ORIGINAL REPORT

AFD was dispatched out to the 2600 block of North Willis Street just before 6:00 p.m. as large smoke filled Abilene’s sky.

Traffic has been blocked off while crews fight the fire.

Abilene fire fighters were able to quickly contain the flames and stop them from spreading to neighboring houses. As of 6:10 p.m., smoke continued to billow through the second floor.
