Darius Rucker’s Riverfront Revival music festival is returning to South Carolina’s Lowcountry for the third year in a row and this year’s event will have a very familiar co-headlining act — Rucker’s own Hootie & the Blowfish.

The group that formed when the members were students at the University of South Carolina in the 1980s was announced as the music festival’s top-billed act, along with Tedeschi Trucks Band, at the now annual event that’s held at Riverfront Park in North Charleston.

This year’s Riverfront Revival, curated by Rucker, will be held on Oct. 11 and 12, promoters said Wednesday in a news release.

Darius Rucker and Jim Sonefeld perform with Hootie and the Blowfish during the first of three shows in their hometown during their “Group Therapy Tour” at Colonial Life Arena Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, in Columbia, S.C. The band, on hiatus since 2008, formed in 1986 while the members attended the University of South Carolina.

Rucker, the Hootie & the Blowfish frontman turned country music star, is a three-time Grammy Award winner.

He and his Hootie band mates — Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, and Jim ‘Soni’ Sonefeld — are about to embark on their first tour since 2019. The “Summer Camp With Trucks Tour,” which includes stops in Columbia and Greenville, will “culminated in emphatic fashion in their home state of South Carolina along the backdrop of the Cooper River in a can’t-miss performance,” promoters said.

Tickets for Riverfront Revival are on sale, with prices for general admission daily passes starting at $115, and weekend general admission passes at $190, according to the release. This does not include taxes and fees. Tickets can be purchased at RiverfrontRevival.com.

General Admission Plus ($225 daily, $375 weekend) tickets are new to this year’s festival, and include a private bar, seating and restrooms, promoters said.

VIP tickets ($325 daily, $600 weekend), which are limited in quantity and have sold out the past two years, include dedicated entrances and viewing areas in front of the stages, exclusive premium lounge areas, bars and restrooms, according to the release.

The rest of the festival’s lineup will include a melody of nineties, Americana, rock and country tunes, promoters said.

Along with Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Revivalists, Paul Cauthen, Southall, Grace Bowers & the Hodge Podge and July Moon will perform on Oct. 11.

On the following day, Jamey Johnson, Collective Soul, Arrested Development, Hailey Whitters, Sister Hazel, Shane Profitt, Gritty Flyright, Brady Smith and Elizabeth Covington will take the stage.

Georgia rock band Collective Soul, known for songs “Shine,” “December,” and “The World I Know,” among other hits, is one of the opening acts on the Hootie & the Blowfish tour.

Hootie & the Blowfish will wrap up the festivities as they officially end their “Summer Camp with Trucks Tour.”

“I can’t think of a better way to close Riverfront Revival out with a bang than next to my Hootie & the Blowfish bandmates,” Rucker said in the release. “Charleston and the band both mean so much to me and are an integral part of who I am, so I’m thrilled to bring these two parts of my life together for everyone to celebrate and enjoy.”

A portion of the proceeds will again be donated to the Arts in Healing program at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and local nonprofit Just Be You.
