Damaged Waffle House shuts down after car crash in Wytheville

WYTHEVILLE, Va. (WFXR)– On Wednesday, March 27, the Waffle House on East Main Street in Wytheville closed early evening due to an accident that occurred a little before 4 a.m.

Police say that’s when a woman accidentally crashed her vehicle into the building. The woman said she tried to park in a space in front of the restaurant, but her foot slipped off the brake and onto the accelerator. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Employees told WFXR that they were shocked to see the extent of the damage.

“All this — you see all this silver part, all through her — all it was just totally bent in. Glass was plum out into the yard, they had to suck it out with a shop vac. But all the metal, just everything all the glass — was shoved right through right there and it touched the low bar,” said Melissa Hicks, a server at the Waffle House.

The town has since shut down the Waffle House. The town’s building inspector gave the following statement:

We’re closing the store because the patchwork wasn’t done properly. They’ll have to get a building permit and then get it inspected. Once it’s inspected, it’ll be okay temporarily until they can get it fixed.”
