Dam Jam warns of ticket scam

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The organizer of The Dam Jam Music Festival is dealing with a new issue. CJ Wilson says fraudulent websites are popping up and selling tickets that are not redeemable.

She says the only legitimate site to get tickets is TheDamJam.com, where a weekend pass will cost you $150. She says at least one fraudulent site is selling the weekend pass for $265.

The news comes after The Dam Jam lost its bid to be at Lake Afton again. Wilson found a new location for the July 19 and 20 music festival — 1744 S. 183rd St. West in Goddard. Now, she wants to ensure people have legitimate tickets for the popular event.

“Thank you for sharing this important information with the community!” she said in a news release. “It’s crucial to be vigilant when purchasing event tickets to avoid falling victim to scams.”

Wilson offers this advice:

  1. Buy from official sources. Wilson suggests going to official event and venue websites that are the safest and most secure places to buy tickets.

  2. Use the event or venue’s official website or mobile app. Be cautious of sites that may look like the official platform but are fraudulent.

  3. Be cautious when buying from individuals on social media or other unofficial platforms. If you choose to purchase tickets from third-party sellers, use extreme caution. Scammers often operate on these platforms.

  4. Beware of these common scams:

    • Counterfeit tickets: Tickets found on third-party sites or via social media may not be legitimate.

    • Sketchy payment methods: Be wary of sellers who ask for direct money transfers or credit card information over the phone.

    • Gift card scams: Some scammers may ask you to pay using gift cards. Legitimate ticket providers will never ask for gift cards as payment.

“Remember, no one should ever be turned away at an event due to fake or counterfeit tickets,” Wilson said. “By following these guidelines, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all fans.”

If you do encounter suspicious activity, Wilson asks you to report it immediately.

If you prefer to buy tickets in person, The Dam Jam box office is at 3835 W. Douglas in Wichita.
