The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said a 2013 Fiat and 2022 model Volvo semi were involved in the crash.

Near mile marker 70, the Fiat driver reportedly came to stop in the lane of travel, which caused the semi to collide into the rear of the vehicle.

Troopers reported the Fiat collided with a guardrail and came to a final rest on the right side of the roadway.

Meanwhile, the impact caused the semi to crash into a bridge and guardrail before coming to a final rest on the right shoulder.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and sustained injuries in the crash, officials said. However, a deputy with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office told News 2 their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

A portion of Almaville Road was closed as crews worked to clean debris from the scene. However, the road reopened just before 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23.

Workers at a business near the crash site told News 2 they never seen or heard anything like what unfolded Monday night.

“As I was looking, you could see the side of the tractor-trailer hanging over the bridge and there was actually pieces that were on the truck falling over the bridge onto the roadway,” Tori Rankins. “That’s why they had to block underneath the bridge for a couple of hours to clean the debris.”
