Council approves rezoning for townhouses

May 9—Sanford City Council unanimously approved rezoning for a 143-unit townhouse development on Tuesday, May 7.

The rezoning by TMTLA Associates on Harkey Road and Hillwood Street west of Courtland Drive was recommended for approval by the city's planning commission last month.

The council approved the rezoning from residential and solar farm to the North and South Harkey towns conditional zoning districts. In addition, the council deemed the zoning map amendment compatible with the San Lee long-range plan.

The proposal was split into two sections. Councilman Byron Buckels recused himself from the southern portion because he and Shelia Buckels own some of that land. Councilman Charles Taylor was absent.

Senior Planner Amy McNeill noted that developer Rob Bailey and nearby resident Arnando Leak came to an agreement regarding Bailey's driveway and a fence or berm.

Leak's property adjoins the northern portion of the property near where a pond will be.

On April 16, developer Rob Bailey said the estimated starting range for the townhouses will be around $260,000 to $275,000.
