LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) – Bringing the science of a long-ago genius to a Las Vegas Middle School.

Leonardo DaVinci hasn’t roamed the planet in more than 500 years (he died in 1519), but his thoughts, dreams and inventions live on today, especially at an annual event at Hyde Park Middle School. From a living history museum to what the young science students of today are working on. There’s a ton of DaVinci inspired art. And a renaissance re-enactment group, where a spokesperson explained:

“We have somebody spinning wool, we have a butter churn, we have embroidery, we have weaving, and we have combat and archery.”

Connecting the past to the future, the Hyde Park band even brought some “May the 4th” to the evening by playing some Star Wars music.

While it’s impossible to say for sure, I hope it’s o-k to GUESS that if DaVinci was alive today, he *might* be a fan of the food trucks that were at the school on his big night: “The World’s Best Corndogs” and “Senor Blues mexican food.”

But on a more serious note: a shout-out to the Principal at Hyde Park, Anna Belknap, who’s retiring at the end of the school year.
