Construction of Grand Junction High School now 65% complete

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — As students prepare for summer break, construction workers continue to progress in the construction of Grand Junction High School.

Construction broke ground on the project on June 1, 2022. The budget for the project totals $144 million.

The building is expected to accommodate 1,600 students and has the ability to accommodate 1,800 if necessary.

Clint Garcia, chief operations officer for District 51, explains what will be left once the building opens to students in August.

“At 75% of the project will be the opening of the building. Once the building is open, we still have some projects still left to do. The rest of that project is all of our grounds and landscaping, all of our athletic fields, soccer field, tennis courts, baseball fields… we’re doing some work on the track as well. All of that will be finished out through the end of 2024 and into 2025.”

Garcia also has this message for the community.

“We just want to say thank you to the community for your vote of confidence in the district and thank you for saying yes to Grand Junction High School.”
