Coast Guard rescues man whose sailboat caught fire off Virginia coast

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a man whose sailboat caught fire off the Virginia coast on Thursday night.

The Coast Guard says it happened around midnight about 60 miles east of Chincoteague.

The 58-year-old mariner was found in a lifeboat and taken to a Norfolk hospital for treatment.

There’s no word on the cause of the boat fire at this time.
