Cincinnati COVID cases trending down, health department reports

Cincinnati health officials provided the latest COVID-19 vaccine recommendations and an update on where Cincinnati stands with the virus in an announcement this morning.

Here’s what you need to know.

  • People aged 65 years or older who received a single dose of any COVID-19 vaccine from the 2023-24 season, including Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Novavax, should follow up with an additional dose at least four months after the initial dose. This is according to updated guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • COVID-19 infections in Cincinnati continue to decline and are at a low transmission rate currently. Every week, less than 10 out of every 100,000 people are hospitalized because of COVID-19 according to the Health Collaborative, an organization that tracks health data in the region.

  • The CDC recommends that those who test positive for COVID follow the same recommendations as those who have the flu or respiratory syncytial virus, also known as RSV: stay home until you are fever-free for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication.
