Children’s Memorial Flag Day returning to Mercer County

PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) – West Virginia is number one in the country for reported child abuse. A local Children’s Home Society is working tirelessly to prevent abuse and aid children in need.

On April 26, 2024, the Children’s Home Society of WV, in collaboration with community members, plans to host a Children’s Memorial Flag Day.

This day is set aside to remember children who have died from violence or other preventable causes.

Memorial Flag Committee member Joanne Boileau stresses the importance of caring for children in our community.

“The state of West Virginia is the number one in the country [for reported child abuse]. There are a lot of theories of why that might be, but we can’t lose sight of how important these children are,” said Boileau.

There will be a keynote address and briefing at the Mercer County Courthouse. The event will also include a musical tribute and refreshments as well.

Events begin at noon on April 26, 2024.
